Leaving a gift in your will can make a difference
Since 2001, Women and Children First has been setting up community health groups in some of the world’s most rural and remote areas of the world. These groups have saved and changed the lives of women, children, mothers, and their babies.
There are still so many more communities where our work could save lives.
Leaving a gift in your will could help those communities and make a difference for future generations. Even just 1% of your estate can have a huge impact.
Creating your lasting legacy
A gift in your will can help us set up more community health groups.
It can train more women to run their own groups, sharing important information, enabling to people collaborate to change their health for the better.
It can help us start ambitious new projects; to reach different people that need and use groups in different ways.
Leaving a gift in your will can ensure Women & Children First is there to help people survive and thrive in the future.
We understand friends, family and loved ones come first.
But, if you can leave a gift to Women & Children First, you will be entrusting us to carry on our lifesaving, life-changing work.
Why it matters for women’s welfare
Your gifts can support women in the most rural and remote communities, facing the biggest challenges to accessing the healthcare and support they need.
A gift in your will can help a young mother like Thokozani. She says “My group assisted me. If I was not a member of this group, I couldn’t have saved the life of my baby, Mishek. He was suffering from coughing and malaria.” Her group encouraged her to travel 9 miles to her local district hospital to get treatment.
Thokozani’s group also gave her sugar, soybean and maize, which meant she could make porridge for her son, giving him the nutrition he needed. She now takes part in door-to-door activities to help others in the community.
Leaving a gift in your will enables us to set-up more life-saving, life changing groups now and into the future.
REAL LIFE STORIES
Zebiba’s story
“Before the women’s health groups, most people did not want to stay for postnatal care. After giving birth we rushed to go home. The midwives saved my child’s life.”
Writing your will with Kwil
Women & Children First has partnered with Kwil to give you the opportunity to write your will for free online in as little as 30 minutes, or over the telephone with one of their solicitors.
Any gift left to the charity will be exempt from Inheritance Tax and will help Women & Children First to continue our mission, supporting better health for women and children thanks to our effective groups.
Have a will? You can write a codicil
A codicil can be used for small changes to your will, including a gift to charity. This can save time and money, rather than having a new Will prepared.
It is recommended codicils are used for minor changes to a will, such as adding a gift to a charity, or altering funeral arrangements. For more significant changes a new Will should be written.
If you choose to write a codicil then you should store this alongside your Will, so your executors do not miss it. Codicils must be witnessed in the same way as witnessing a will.
Adding Women & Children First to your will
You have the following three options for leaving a legacy to Women & Children First’s work.
You will also need to ensure that you put information in your will to identify Women & Children First to your executors.
Please note that this does not constitute legal advice, which we recommend you seek to ensure your will is written correctly.
